The IB Physics Higher Level (HL) curriculum is an advanced component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, designed to deepen students’ understanding of complex physics principles and their applications. The course builds upon the Standard Level topics while introducing additional subjects such as wave phenomena, fields, electromagnetic induction, and quantum and nuclear physics. In-depth exploration of mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, and particle physics helps students gain a more comprehensive understanding of the physical world. Practical lab work is an essential part of the HL course, with students conducting sophisticated experiments to reinforce theoretical knowledge. Additionally, students complete an Internal Assessment (IA), where they design and execute a personal research project, which contributes 20% to their final grade. The IB Physics HL course is assessed through multiple external exams alongside the IA.
