IB-International Baccalaureate

IB Exam Curriculum 2020

Four different programmes are offered by the IB board namely, the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP). The major examinations conducted annually by the IB board under the baccalaureate degree are Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme. Exams are usually as two sessions, one in November and the other in May.

Primary Years Programme (PYP)

  • The PYP curriculum is being taught in over 10 districts around the TN, PYP curriculum framework is easily adaptable to state and national standards. This curriculum is guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance and thereby students can strengthen their learning skills by developing conceptual understandings. As long as a school is authorized to implement the PYP programme, it is possible that any student aged from 3 to 12 can join the same.
  • PYP is actually a transformative experience for students, teachers and the whole school communities. PYP students get to learn how to take full control of their learning. Teachers will always be there to collaborate and to help in deepening student learning and take part in increasing the confidence level of the students. The school community and parents are considered as partners in the learning of students where they can actively contribute to a marvellous educational experience.

PYP Written Curriculum

International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) focuses on the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the students and to develop the conceptual understanding in all areas. The written curriculum comprises of the following essentials.

Middle Years Programme (MYP)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) is for students aged from 11-16. The MYP is a framework that encourages the students to establish practical connections between their academics and the real world. MYP is a five-year programme. Students who successfully complete the MYP are eligible to undertake the Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme offered by the IBThe Middle Years Programme (MYP) consists of eight subject groups mentioned below.

  • Physical and health education
  • Design

MYP requires at least 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group in a year of the programme. In the 4th and 5th year, students are free to select courses from six of the eight subject groups to provide greater flexibility in meeting the requirements and individual student needs. MYP students also have to complete a long-term project where they can measure what they know and assess themselves on a practical basis.

Diploma Programme (DP)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is for the students aged from 16-19. The DP programme aims to develop students who have an excellent depth of knowledge. The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum contains six subject groups and the DP core elements are the theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and an extended essay.

During the Diploma Programme (DP), students should complete research and undertake a project that often involves public service. The curriculum is made up of the DP core elements along with six subject groups. DP core aims to broaden the educational experience of the students and challenges them to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired in the course of study.

Career-related Programme (CP)

  • The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (CP) is designed for those students aged from 16 to 19. CP is a framework of international education that implements the values of IB into a unique programme that fulfils the needs of students looking forward to career-related education where the programme has the advantages such as it leads to higher education, apprenticeships or employment.
  • CP students undergo a minimum of two IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core consisting of four elements and a career-related study as well whereas, for the CP students, it further supports the programme’s academic strength and provides real-world approaches to learning. CP core helps the students to develop skills and competencies that are required for lifelong learning. The CP consists of the following major sections.
  • courses from the IB’s Diploma Programme (DP)
  • the CP core
  • career-related studies.
